The Department of Physical Sciences housing two programmes, Mathematics and Physics, was established in 2012 in the College of Science, Evangel University, Akaeze. Guided by the standard NUC approved curriculum and facilities on ground, the programme Physics metamorphosed to Physics with Electronics in 2017. The programme commenced studies in 2012/2013 session with an initial in-take of four (4) students and two (2) full-time academic staff. The Programme at inception had wide office spaces, classrooms and two laboratories well equipped with modern laboratory materials.

The development of the programme is a continuous one. The students population has increased from four (4) students to eighteen (18) students with increased number of lecturers from two (2) to five(5) full- time staff and three (4) part-time staff in the following categories- One full- time professor, one visiting Professors, four Senior Lecturer, two Full-time Lecturer II and one Assistant lecturer. The programme also has one technologist and one laboratory attendant. The pioneer students graduated in the 2015/2016 academic session.

Philosophy, Aims and Objectives of the Programme

a. To provide students with a broad and balanced foundation of physics knowledge and practical skills.

b. To instill in students a sense of enthusiasm for Physics with Electronics, and appreciation of its applications in different areas of life.

c. To involve the students in intellectually simulating and satisfying experience of learning and studying.

d. To develop in students the ability to apply their knowledge and skills in Physics to the solution of theoretical and practical problems.

e. To develop in students through an education in Physics with Electronics a range of transferable skills of value in physics, electronics and other areas.

f. To provide students with knowledge and skills base, for further studies in physics or multi-disciplinary areas involving physics.

g. To use the basic theories, Experimental and Empirical techniques to produce graduates well equipped with the basic theories, applications as well as practical skills in Physics Electronics to contribute meaningfully to the immediate environment and the society at large.

MISSION

To produce excellent and responsible Physicists through learning, teaching, research, practice, training and exposure to practical, physical theories and principle all geared towards the service of man.

VISION

To be one of the best Departments of Science in Nigeria whose graduates are evidently worthy in character and learning as well as excellence in application of principles of physics, electronics and computing techniques to solving physical problems.
